Name: Dirk Strider
Journal:
timaeus
Canon: Homestuck
Age: 16
Species: Human
Canon Point: End of comic, pre-credits
Condition: Recently decapitated and subsequently resurrected but otherwise alright
History:
Dirk is "born" on a meteor in a timeless space between universes, the result of some crazy paradoxical cloning shenanigans that created him based on his own future self. He and the rest of his future-friends are subsequently shot off into various portals to different places and points in time, which lands Dirk on Earth in the year 2408 after the planet has been flooded and the human race wiped out. He literally raises himself from infancy, completely alone in the apartment that'd been prepared for him centuries earlier by his "Bro", presumably living off supplies that'd been left for him until he was capable of being more self-sufficient.
Growing up, Dirk teaches himself everything, from talking and reading and writing to advanced engineering, mostly using the remains of the internet. He digs deep into past human culture and becomes and especially big fan of the works of his Bro, Dave Strider, a famous director turned revolutionary who fought against an alien tyrant at the end of humanity's lifespan. Dirk builds his own robots and creates an AI clone of his own brain for company. At some point, he comes into online contact with an alien named Calliope who provides a time-locked instant messaging program that lets him interact with his friends living on Earth centuries earlier. Dirk is made aware of SBURB, a game that propagates reality by destroying old universes and creating new ones, and he prepares to eventually play it with his friends so they can all escape the end of the world.
When the time comes to enter the game, shit immediately goes south for their group and most of them are dead or unconscious before they can enter. Dirk enacts a convoluted plan to repair the situation involving dreamselves, time travel, resurrecting the dead via kisses, rad as fuck hoverboarding, and self-decapitation. It all works and their group successfully enters the game, which transports them all to the Incipisphere, a place in paradox space separate from traditional time and space. Their session of the game is "void" and thus impossible to win traditionally because of Reasons, so the group of them spend half a year there unable to continue on their own. Dirk starts dating his friend Jake in that time, but the relationship eventually fizzles out due to faults on both their parts. Dirk finally breaks things off rather explosively after a nervous breakdown and some nonsense resulting from cosmic alien superdrugs.
The group emerges from the haze of their drug-fueled shenanigans already on their quest beds – slabs that allow one to ascend to the "godtier" if one dies on them – and begin to work out their interpersonal issues before they're all killed in a sudden explosion. They all reach godtier and gain a power upgrade just in time for the arrival of players from other game sessions – young alternate universe versions of their respective guardians/ancestors, as well as some aliens. Dirk finally gets to meet his Bro, albeit a teen version from another universe. The new arrivals provide certain key pieces that were missing from the void session and they collectively have a shot at winning the game now, provided they can beat a number of final bosses congregating in their session.
Before the final battle, Dirk and Dave have some time to talk through a lot of shit. Dirk's excitement at finally getting to meet his Bro is squashed by the reveal that Dave hated the version of Dirk that existed in his own universe for being deeply abusive to Dave his whole life. Dave finally gets some closure on that whole situation by venting about it to Dirk, who only accepts responsibility with the resignation that every iteration of himself is just inherently toxic, and then Dave feels bad that he's unloading all this on a guy who didn't actually do anything to him and pretty much absolves Dirk of responsibility for it. It's a heavy but cathartic conversation for the both of them but they come out of it with hugging and bonding and Dirk smiling for literally the first time in the whole damn comic.
In the final endgame boss fight, their team struggles to take down their designated foes until Dirk gets grappled by one of them, lining up himself and both enemies. He signals for Dave to take advantage of the opening and Dave slashes through all three of them, decapitating them all. He grabs Dirk's head and body and brings it back to be revived by their friend with resurrection powers. Everyone reunites and celebrates before completing the final steps to win the game and create a new universe for themselves.
Personality:
Pros:
Cons:
Inventory:
- Prince of Heart godtier garb
- Dirk's shades, which contain crazy futuretech that lets him use them as functionally a portable computer
- The broken lower half of his katana
Powers/Abilities: Dirk's powers as a godtier Prince of Heart include fight, conditional immortality, and the ability to remove and destroy souls. All of these will be completely removed in game. His physical abilities include crazy speed that'll be nerfed to more typical human levels of extremely good agility.

Personality:
- Smart: Dirk is extremely intelligent in many different ways. He's kind of a genius, having built his own robots and created his own AI as a kid. He writes academic papers for fun. He comes up with solid plans to overcome obstacles and enacts them quickly, which makes him seem hyper-competent in a comic known for fuckups and comedies of errors.
- Self-assured: He's very self-aware of his own abilities and intelligence. This is not always a good thing – see the Cons sections – but it helps him get shit done very effectively. He knows what he's capable of and he doesn't hesitate to do what's needed, even in the most extreme of situations.
Cool-headed: Dirk is pragmatic and rational about basically everything, and keeps his head on straight when everything's going to shit (aside from where his interpersonal relationships are concerned). He's the guy that can make the tough decisions in critical moments, and he's unafraid to sacrifice himself if that's what it takes. - Caring: It's not immediately obvious at all, as aloof and stoic as he is about everything, but Dirk cares deeply for the people he loves. He would kill himself in a heartbeat (and has, on multiple occasions) to save his friends. He pours his whole heart into everything he does for them, from birthday gifts to battle, and while his version of care isn't always obvious or kind, he always tries to do what he thinks is best for them.
- Self-loathing: He hates himself, plain and simple. Dirk is too self-aware for him own good and hyper-conscious and critical of all his own flaws. He does genuinely always mean well, but those flaws lead to a lot of fuckups and he dwells on that shit hardcore. He seems to think of himself as being inherently bad, like he's destined to be a terrible person in the end despite his best attempts to the contrary, and those thoughts are only amplified by the canon's abundance of alternate selves that give him plenty of objective third-person perspective and evidence that every version of him always sucks.
- Self-obsessed: Dirk is very much all about the self as a theme narratively. He's self-centered, not in the sense of being selfish, but in that he can't help but think of everything as being about himself somehow. With as much as he hates himself, it's very easy for him to blame himself for anything that goes wrong ever. He assumes other people's actions must be because of him even when they've got literally nothing to do with him. Everything is about him, just not necessarily in any kind of positive way.
- Domineering: Continuing the themes of "everything centers on him all the time" and "too smart for his own good", Dirk tends to take over everything and steamroll others into doing what he wants. He always thinks he knows best in the moment. It doesn't help that he really is very smart – he often is right, at least in an objective sense, and it leads him to take charge of a lot of things. It's great when shit needs to get done, but his failure to handle others' feelings properly often leads to interpersonal messiness. His pragmatism overrides everyone else's feelings, no matter how valid those feelings are, and he's convinced he's right up until everything blows up in his face because people don't live in a world of pure logic. It's only in hindsight that he ever seems to recognize that he doesn't actually know best, and that belated recognition of how he hurts people is just another thing to hate about himself.
- Intense: Dirk takes everything to an extreme; he can't just like something, he has to be an expert in it, to the extent of writing academic papers that he has peer-reviewed by the AI version of himself that he created. He can't start any project without getting wildly carried away with it. And he's prone to weird power plays in his attempts to control everything. Even in his relationship with his love interest, Jake, he goes about everything in what Jake describes as "a really long term and esoteric courtship process that is bizarre but somehow makes perfect sense in his mind" and leaves Jake feeling like them getting together is sort of inevitable due to how Dirk is "just so relentless and aggressive about everything".
